Still not sure how Cox compares to DSL/Dial-up? Check out some Frequently Asked Questions:
Is Cox High Speed Internet new? Cox High Speed Internet is a full featured, high-speed Internet service that has been available for over 5 years.
I heard that cable Internet users share a cable line while DSL provides a dedicated connection to the Internet. DSL does not provide a dedicated connection to the Internet. The only dedicated part of a DSL network is the line that connects a DSL modem to the telephone company's nearest switch or another piece of equipment located in the DSL customer's neighborhood. If you are a DSL customer, you will share bandwidth with other DSL users on your provider's network long before your traffic reaches the Internet.
Will Cox High Speed Internet slow down as you add more customers? No. We consistently monitor our network and proactively upgrade as we add more customers.
My friend said his Cox High Speed Internet service used to be fast and now seems to be slowing down? Your friend should visit our support site or call our support line at 800-234-3224 so we can correct any problems. Very likely, your friend’s computer is having problems or the site he is visiting may be slow at certain times of the day. But we can help, if he contacts us.
I heard cable modems were not secure or private? Cox High Speed Internet service is very secure. All communications across our fiber-optic network are encrypted using robust, industry-standard 56-bit encryption key technology
Is Cox High Speed Internet reliable? Cox High Speed Internet service is very reliable as it is always connected. Our high-speed, fiber-optic, redundant network makes Cox High Speed Internet extremely reliable.
Is it true that Cable modem services usually do not support a wide variety of Internet applications? Cox High Speed Internet supports all industry standard applications including browsers, email clients, video conferencing software, computer games, and much more. If your provider uses PPPoe - as many DSL providers do - you will not be able to use some Internet applications. Cox High Speed Internet does not use PPPoe.
